Table of Contents
Best Usenet Provider
There are several different kinds of Usenet accounts (aka NNTP account) and one size does not fit all. The best Usenet provider plan is the one that fits your need. This guide is divided into sections based on cost, bandwidth, and features offered. Just look at the options under the category that you fit in. We have also provided links to discount offers.
Unlimited Bandwidth Plans
htpcBeginner recommends unlimited plans simply for the reason that you do not have to worry about what and how much you are downloading. If you do not want "luxury" features (web access, VPN, etc.) then these plans offer the best bang for the buck. If you are into HD content and cannot stand SD then we definitely recommend an unlimited plan. Below are the best Usenet providers we have tested and recommend highly of:

Block Plans
If you are not a heavy downloader and do not want to pay for an unlimited plan and just want a cheap Usenet service then you can buy bandwidth in blocks (example: 25 GB, 180 GB, etc.). Once your bandwidth is reached, downloading stops. These plans have the disadvantage that some if your apps snatches/downloads wrongly labeled or wrong language content (these can happen by the way) then your bandwidth is wasted. Moreover, these plans are general not the best value.
Provider | Plan | Features | Cost / Offer Link |
---|---|---|---|
NewsDemon | 10 GB to 1000 GB | >2000 days retention, Unlimited speed, SSL, 50 connections, & free Newsreader | $2.00 to $87.00 |
Astraweb | 25 GB | >2000 days retention, Unlimited speed, SSL, and 50 connections | $10.00 |
Astraweb | 180 GB | >2000 days retention, Unlimited speed, SSL, and 50 connections | $25.00 |
Astraweb | 1000 GB | Unlimited speed, SSL, and 50 connections | $50.00 |
Short-term Plans
Some providers offer short-term plans that span a few days. These are great for testing the service out before signing up for a long-term plan. These plans are also excellent choice if you want to do a one-time download of a bunch of content (this is rarely the case). But you may achieve the same thing by signing up for free trials that generally offer more features. The advantage here is that, it is one-time only and you do not have to go through the trouble of calling your provider to cancel auto-renew.
Provider | Plan | Features | Cost / Offer Link |
---|---|---|---|
Easynews | 3 Days | 10 connections, Unlimited, no SSL, and one time only | $3.00 |
Easynews | 3 Days | 20 connections, Unlimited, SSL, and one time only | $5.00 |
Simple and Easy to Manage Plans
If you are new to the topic of Usenet or do not want to go through the hassle of installing a newsgrabber such as SABnzbd, then these plans may fit your need. You can browse/search and download content all through your internet browser from anywhere. Finally, you receive a link to a zip file after the download is done. Since everything is done through the web, it is difficult to configure Sick Beard or CouchPotato to automatically organize your downloaded content. Also, these plans typically have lower retention and/or bandwidth.
